What do you feel is the best way to get our gay brothers off crystal meth?

QuantumJourney asked:

For one reason or another, too many of our gay brothers are turning to crystal meth. Go online and you’ll see it’s getting worse and worse. When I was in dating mode, before I met my boyfriend, I had to ask everyone I went out with if they “partied.” Over half of them did.

I’ve been there myself, and have been succesfully off it for over 4 years.

I do not believe an inanimate object like Tina is ruining our community. I beleive the choice to use it is ruining our community.

How do we help these guys make better choices?

Commit them to a detox facility and get them good education. Short of that, the only way they will get help is to want it for themselves. There’s not a lot that us “normies” can do otherwise.

I believe a lot of it comes from the stigma inflicted upon our community as “not measuring up” to popular society so they look for a way out, an escape.
They’ve given up trying to ‘fit in’ because they face discrimination and hatred everywhere else. So, they turn to drugs to escape that pain caused to them.

What they need is self esteem, care, compassion and a lot of DETOX!
We need to have more visible support networks available to the hidden gay community, the ones who don’t live in “gay ghettos” or major cities.
The ones who urban society all too often forget exist.

I agree with you about the large percentage of gay men, but the drug is running rampant in every community, not just the gay sector.

Crystal Meth is a scourge — not just in the gay community but across America, more fully in the rural areas than in the urban ones — to my utter amazement.

Gays may be particularly receptive to the drug because many of them have still not released the negative influences in their lives that came from nasty parents, damaging peer interactions and societies opprobrium when they were young. They still partially hate themselves at the same time that they know what they are, and desire sex. Under such mental conditions, anyone can fool themselves into believing that the drugs are “harmless” or “just for the sex” or whatever.

It is in dealing with the underlying issues that we help the people either avoid, or no longer need any drugs. I would suggest to you that perhaps therefore, forming loving communities of gay persons, that are inclusive and caring, might help eliminate the drug from our midst by eliminating the NEED for the drug.

I know of nothing else that might help.

Regards,

Reynolds
