Women, how would you handle this?

shaylee3216 asked:

Hypothetical situation: A young woman gets raped by her ex-bf who is heavily addicted to crystal meth. She gets pregnant and ends up keeping the baby with the support of her parents and her fiance. The ex-bf goes to jail and starts a drug rehab program. Three or four years later, he has turned his life around and claims to be a whole new person. He wants to meet his child and have some kind of visitation rights. If you were that young woman, what would you do? Again this is a hypothetical situation. I am not nor is anyone I know in this situation. I want SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY! I don’t want any stupid or rude comments.
Just wanted to thank you all for your answers!!

I’d let him have visitation rights in exchange for child support. Nothing for nothing. He doesn’t deserve it.

IF I WAS THE MOTHER I WOULD SAY NO, THE CHILD HAS ALLREADY GONE WITHOUT A CRAZY DAD, THINK ABOUT THE KID, YOU DONT WANT THE DAD TO GET ATTACHED AND THEN THE KIDS HEART GETS BROKEN…. SAY NO AND MAKE SURE HE STAYS AWAY, MABY THE MOM WILL MEET SOMEONE SPECIAL IN FURTHER TIME AND THE KID CAN CALL HIM DAD, PLUS HE REALLY ISNT A DAD BY TRUE MEANING IF HE RAPTED HER!!!

I think I would have tried to get myself really good & lost, maybe could come across someone who is willing to help with raising the child as their own.

I will not allow that man to see the child. How can you trust him after what he did. How can you trust your child with that man.
The child will know the new guy as a father.

I would pray for wisdom, and ask the opinions of wise people in my life. If I did decide to let him see his child, I would be VERY cautious about. (supervised visitations only, and then only if he maintains a respectful attitude and doesn’t get pushy). Also I would be in contact with an attorney in case he decides to get partial custody or something.

I would look at his life situation. How long has been clean from drugs (I would want monthly drug tests to back up his statement from rehab).

Does he have a job? A place to live? Does he come across financially and mentally stable?

Lastly, I would probably let him have supervised visitation after some time consulting the court system. Also he would not be allowed to know where I live if I could help it, until a few years of showing he has really changed.

People can’t blame drugs for all their mistakes, but drugs especially ones like meth can make people do things they would not have done otherwise.
